Arrived at 11.45am and I was first in line at this stall whilst there was a snaking queue at the chicken rice stall which they share. Ordered $4 bowl of mee hoon kway soup. The portion is about enough for light lunch. So suggest to get the dry version and you won't crave more. The soup is not bad but can be better. The hand made noodle is soft and chewy. The meat ball is good, firm and bouncy but the minced meat is lacking of taste. Don't have to get the pork belly extra. The additional ingredients is necessary as it enhances the dish. Soup base is a tad salty and taste salty on its own. The kway had a good bite to it with a slight alkaline water taste but it tasted quite different from those outside. It is rather plain to eat it alone but taste good to eat it with the soup and ingredients. However, the soup taste overwhelming for the kway. Honestly, the ratio is not balanced. 3 types of ingredients are given (fish cake, meat ball and minced meat) and the taste of minced meat became overpowering. Adding lard made the soup tasted just right. Overall eating experience has improved by mixing the kway + lard + ingredients in soup + a bit of soup. So thumbs up and now I know how to properly eat it.
I've been a strong advocate of this stall whenever I'm craving for Ban Mian but for the past few times I've been there I've been so disappointed. Their Ban Mian is so inconsistent, which to me is a basic. Their meat balls are so floury that it'd make you feel like chewing dough. Their 疙瘩汤 lacks of fragrance when compared to the other stalls in Chomp Chomp. Their fried chili is probably the only saving grace. So disappointing. And probably won't be back in a while.
Tried this mee hoon kway stall that is very popular and constantly having long queue. Went early around 10am and there wasnt much of a queue. Price starts from SGD$4 for all types of noodle. They served both the dry and soup version. Dried version had a generous serving of crispy ikan bilis and since i dont really take fatty food, decided to have the dried version. The mee hoon kway was not as soft as other ban mian but still chewy to my liking. I really enjoy the springiness of the noodle. The soup was rather oily and my friend find it a little too salty. It works for some people but didnt for others. So the next time i decide to go, should try the soup version hopefully i am lucky to avoid the long queue. Overall, prices are steep but portion generous. They are not stingy with the ingredients at all. I really need to try the soup version on my next visit.
Ordered Mian Fen Guo today, soup was super peppery and had some good flavors. Belly pork was good but would prefer it tender. The noodle was very nice slightly chewy and enjoyed it in the peppery soup
Portion was alright but it was a disappointment to see my side bowl of anchovies empty. The noodles tasted ok but I don't know why they tasted different from racist they sold at another shop. I think they lack vinegar as they gave garlic out separately and that didn't go well. I liked my dry version more than the soup
This is a very popular stall and had the longest queue among the stalls at the food centre. The soup base is very thick and peppery, very flavorful unlike other domnplavong stalls which tends to be watery. The Ban Mian is also a little thicker and texture is more chewy as compared to others. Prefer this as it is different in its taste and texture.
Many things have changed over the years; lasting friendships, numerous relationships, good colleagues, great bosses, long queues, great food I never knew enough about my town district until I explored Serangoon Garden and my daily takeaways was MEE HOON KUEH at 456 Mian Fen Guo, Market at Serangoon Garden Of course, those living in Serangoon Gardens know this stall well. So popular till you have to join long queues and end up buying additional items since it is so close to Serangoon Market. The secret is in their Soup Their Soup very different from others. They stew it with pork bones, enough to give you a strong flavour yet not so overwhelming saltish I usually go for their dry version whilst my family members are all soup fans. So I'm always the one lonely one eating dry version sometimes, I'm really tempted to just dive my mouth into the soup just to reminisce the taste; other times, I'll try to control because the noodles is so sedap eaten by itself without the soup If you like it You know where is this 456 Mian Fen Guo Their soup really Huat ah
Ordered meehoon kway soup extra pork ribs and an additional bowl of intestines, as I am sharing with my child. They donnie-alone the noodles to perfection not overly doughy, chewy and QQ texture. There is a good portion of ikan bilis and mushrooms to give the soup a nice flavor. The soup was peppery, which I always like, but it is salty for my taste buds. Additional charge for extra ingredients; a little steep in price, so it was a more pricey meal, but overall still worth it.
Soup is full of flavour and the noodles are nicely done with ingredients added. I ordered the pork ribs version. Will come back for their dry mee hoon kway. Portion is considerate, but it's quite pricey though.
Patience is needed to queue for their meehoon kway, it's super long but definitely worth the wait. The soup was rich and flavorful, noodles were pretty chewy, and the ingredients were also generous. Would definitely come back to try again!
The noodles were springy and the soup was bursting with flavour. It was a pretty enjoyable bowl of ban mian overall!
I was craving for ban mian and saw that this stall had long queues all the time. As expected, I queued for 30 minutes but the wait was worth it because the ban mian was amazing! The soup was savoury and the texture of the noodles was perfect. The portion was also very generous. I would definitely queue again for this ban mian!
